This time no new playground, but a big boost for the maintenance fund. In the past five years, all maintenance has been done from the general income. However, the costs for this increase as the number of playgrounds grows, 12 new ones and one adopted now, so the general income is being spent more and more on maintenance. This is therefore at the expense of new playgrounds. The age of the playgrounds will also eventually count. All the equipment will eventually have to be replaced. The equipment is heavily used by the children. In order to be able to continue building new playgrounds, the realized playgrounds must be guaranteed to be maintained. It is essential that every playground is maintained by Gelukskinders. The schools cannot take that on themselves. They have no money for that.
The playgrounds bear Amira’s name, the foundation cannot afford to turn a blind eye to this very important work. Not now, not tomorrow and actually never. Accidents happen at playgrounds, that is the case everywhere and schools are insured against accidents like that. Scratches, bloody knees, bruises, up to, unfortunately, broken limbs – who hasn’t had that kind of experience as a child or as a parent? However, when a child is hurt as a result of negligent maintenance, it reflects directly on the foundation, including Amira. That must be prevented at all times.
Regular maintenance is of vital importance!
July and August 2019 marked a huge milestone for Amira’s Gelukskinders foundation – 6 new playgrounds were opened!
These were very busy months for those involved in preparations, construction, and openings, but the results are astonishing and well worth all the efforts. Several hundred more children can now enjoy brand new equipment and playgrounds. They were all very enthusiastic and happy about it. Broad grins on their faces said it all!
As always, children received gifts made by Amira who was assisted by her family, friends, and fans attending the events. Joined by local young soloists, choirs, and well-known artists, Amira performed for the children and guests. She was also very eager to demonstrate how to use the equipment!
The sheer joy Amira exhibits when opening new playgrounds is contagious. We are all very proud of her and thankful for being a continuous inspiration to us!
Below is the list of all six playgrounds. Follow the links for more details and photos.

This week, the first excerpt of Amira during her fundraising concert in Lelystad (on November 19 2014) appeared on the web site of Stichting Gelukskinders, the foundation which was established in order to support Amira with her playgrounds-project in South Africa.
Holland’s youngst opera singer, the 10-year-old Amira Willighagen from Nijmegen, who won Holland’s Got Talent last year at the age of only 9, and has performed in the US, Latin-America, South-Africa and various European countries, will shine on November 19th during a fundraising concert in Lelystad, the Netherlands.
In March this year we already reported about Amira opening her first playground in the South-African township Ikageng, near the city of Potchefstroom. Next steps are being made to continue this project.
Soon, Amira’s very own charity foundation will be established, from where further activities in the field of charity can be developed.
Earlier Amira already indicated that she wants to use part of the revenue earned with CD sales and performances for helping other children. With the establishment of her own foundation, it will be easier to develop activities and to coordinate the implementation.

Amira Willighagen is only nine years old but her extraordinary talent and achievements prove she is not just your average kid.
Fresh from winning 2013’s Holland’s Got Talent (Holland’s version of the talent show America’s Got Talent), Amira was in South Africa for about a week, doing performances and singing at the opening of children’s playgrounds in Ikageng, going to interviews and most importantly, visiting family in Kempton Park and Potchefstroom.
