Easter action starts

Start of the Easter action for Gelukskinders.

First let me say that I do not turn a blind eye to what else is going on in this world. My thoughts are with all the families whose next of kin is never to return home… And it doesn’t matter from which country you are. So sad… But also good to see so many people from all over the world reaching out to the refugees, either in goods or money.

The foundation Gelukskinders tries to make the lives of children in the townships of South Africa a bit more happier by giving them the ooportunity to play in actual playgrounds. Now added are sports equipment for the higher grade children including a tournament in netbal for the girls and soccer for the boys. The girls go first… as it should be… and we start with collecting for the township Hessie, the third big public playground. As both are rather expensive we hope we can finish these projects in two actions this year… The target: for this Easter action is €10.000,–.

I saw a comment a couple of days ago… “You guys have a big heart”… yes, we have, thank you… because when you hear and see Amira speak of her foundation, her heart speaks. If the founders of the foundation wouldn’t have been touched in their heart by little Amira, then 9 years old, at that table at RTL Late Night, there would not be a foundation and only one playground, for around 1000 children, would have been built. Just look what big hearts have done in these past 8 years . Now around 12 to 15,000 can play. All thanks to donors to the foundation and the biggest donor, Amira herself. I’ll come back on this in later posts, as comparing South Africa with each person own experiences is just not what it takes.

Keotsipile. New equipment waiting for the children.

First Netbal gear and tournament. In our Christmas action you donors gave this a good start – €1000 came in for the gear, but to dress 10 teams and give them balls and new poles with nets, it needs a further €4000 for completion. That will be the first step towards a tournament that will rock the nation. First steps towards a tournament have been taken – the department of the province is all for it. Marc and Christiaan have been talking to big hotshots there. Yes, Amira’s dream is big. It is our job to make it happen but we cannot do it without the help of you donors.

Next will be the start of collecting for Hessie, a big public playground. As Amira mentioned in her huge speech, Gelukskinders has estimated a cost of somewhere in the region of €12,000 to €14,000. We hope we can realise this playground in 2023. The target for this one now is €6000. This will also come back around the next Christmas action.

Are you able to realise the dream of Amira? I hope that dream will get bigger and bigger in future years. Yes, we are not a huge foundation. But we do what we say we do.
