Six new playgrounds within two months!

July and August 2019 marked a huge milestone for Amira’s Gelukskinders foundation – 6 new playgrounds were opened!

These were very busy months for those involved in preparations, construction, and openings, but the results are astonishing and well worth all the efforts. Several hundred more children can now enjoy brand new equipment and playgrounds. They were all very enthusiastic and happy about it. Broad grins on their faces said it all!
As always, children received gifts made by Amira who was assisted by her family, friends, and fans attending the events. Joined by local young soloists, choirs, and well-known artists, Amira performed for the children and guests. She was also very eager to demonstrate how to use the equipment!
The sheer joy Amira exhibits when opening new playgrounds is contagious. We are all very proud of her and thankful for being a continuous inspiration to us!

Below is the list of all six playgrounds. Follow the links for more details and photos.

Classics 2019

On Friday 19th and Saturday 20th of July, Amira performed at the Classics 2019 concert.

Something the author of this story was looking forward to for a whole year.

To hear Amira sing live, there at that concert, was a great experience in previous editions. This time, however, it ran differently.

Amira performed “only” once, a solo, with a medley from the “Sound of Music”, a beautiful performance where Amira gave everything she had on both days.

No duet, no other song.

She was present at the Grease Medley, on the first evening. The second evening, she was in the line-up of all the artists at the beginning.

Both evenings, she was also at the line-up at the end of the concert.

Amira and Tygerberg Children’s Choir

On April 16th, 2019, Amira performed with the Tygerberg Children’s Choir at Hoërskool Durbanville Auditorium, South Africa.

Here is the eyewitness report by Malcolm Norton. Oh, how we wish we had been there!

Last night a Force Ten {to the power of ten redoubled} tornado hit Cape Town leaving in its wake hundreds of socks blown off all the fortunate victims of its irresistible power. As a survivor I shall try to convey some impressions of the calamity. Calamitous, that is, for all those who weren’t afflicted by it, being far from the mouth- and eye-watering eye of the storm.
